McLeodSoftware’s latest version of its transportation management solutions for freight brokers and motor carriers is “a completely re-engineered user interface and workflows for trucking operations,” according to Tom McLeod, president and founder of the company.

With major enhancements across McLeod’s LoadMaster, PowerBroker, DocumentPower and MPact platforms, Version 25.2 uses artificial intelligence to offer smarter planning, faster invoicing, and AI-driven communication.

The company has spent a great deal of time working with customers to make sure this is not just slapping a web user interface onto a reproduction of McLeod’s existing products, McLeod told Heavy Duty Trucking in an interview at the company’s Birmingham, Alabama, headquarters.

“It's completely re-engineered for efficiency and productivity … visibility, better decision support, and not taking any backward steps on functionality.”

The system aims to give customers the information they need “at the point of decision on a timely basis to help customers improve their operations.”

How McLeod is Using Artificial Intelligence to Help Trucking Customers

As an example of how artificial intelligence is helping customers, McLeod cited the ability to automatically receive and import load tenders into the system.

For instance, he said, “a remarkable amount of load tendering traffic takes place over email, and AI may really finally make a dent in the EDI requirement for a lot of trucking companies.

“If you can take the unstructured email and put it directly into your operations platform, that's an enormous time savings.”

Another example is “being able to add to the rate intelligence. When there's a rate requested, to quote a rate that's likely to win the business. You've got to consider of course the commodity and the service requirements, but also the lane and what the market's doing.

“AI can help to evaluate those factors quickly and allow for a draft of the response that can be reviewed by someone in operations.”

“And then keeping a record of that quote, and then keeping a record of where did you win, or did you lose? Historically, that's just required so much manual work trying to record that that most companies don't take the time to do it. So to get that additional information, the companies that can be on the front end of that will really gain an advantage in the marketplace.”
